A Trip to market Harborough this week had us all wondering to Sat Nav or not to Sat Nav.
From the start Sils had Harborough held back in there half of the pitch without being able to breakdown a hard working Harborough back line. Scrums and rucks seemed to be the menu for the day With Sils strength winning on push but only managing to gain ball possession at there put in.
Early on we began to think if the referee had taken the Sat Nav’s advice when he awarded a scrum to “Hinckley”, much to the amusement of all.
The closet that both teams came to breaking the deadlock in the first 20 minutes came when Ethan kicked along the ground almost Soccer fashion until this came to an end when the post got in the way to dash any hopes of the Sils putting points on the board.
After a period of penalties and line outs to both sides, Harborough had a lineout which Ross managed to rip the ball back in the maul and regain possession for Sils the ball eventually coming out to Ethan who was aware enough to spot a gap in the corner to score the first try of the match. Elliot’s conversion effort from a long way out falling just short. After the restart a similar pattern of play continued with both sides having plenty of possession but neither side could break down each other’s strong defence.
Half Time 0 – 5
From the restart nothing had changed much and some strong tackling from Nathan enabled Sils to break, but once again Harborough’s backs were strong and managed to turn over feeding a very strong and fast Harborough wing who ran from inside his own 22 to score under the posts. Converted.
This didn’t affect the Sils determination and a strong Ben S run started a period of pressure from Sils with a scrum 5 metres out. Having manged to clear the danger Harborough then conceded a penalty inside Sils half which Jacob was alert to taking it quick breaking through the Harborough defence to score under the posts on his 1st match back after being cleared from Concussion a few weeks back. Converted Elliot.
The last 10 mins of the match was played at great pace from both sides, with both sides rucking well which Sils just seemed to have the edge. By now Sils backs handling was getting better and moving the ball along the line well when it came to Jacob who spotted a gap to score his well-deserved 2nd of the match, converted Elliot.
This was a very competitive game which both teams played with strength and skill but above all in Great Spirit which was showed when many of the Harborough Boys came over and shook the hands of the Sils coaches (lovely to see).
Final Score 7 – 19
