Today we made the long journey to the Paviors ground in the lovely setting of Sherwood Forest. This was a last minute fixture, arranged the day before by John G, but we still had a great turnout which was admirable to both players and parents. From our previous home fixture with Paviors, we all knew we had a good game to look forward to.
The match kicked off and within minutes both teams played with intent and aggression. Sils began to get the upper hand and spent a good while camped in their 22. This sustained pressure led to our first try, with Scott breaking quickly from the base of a scrum to tackle his opposite number and dislodging the ball, for Ethan to pick up and go over for our first score. Jacob converting well.
Some more good rugby played and Sils continued to apply pressure in Paviors half. The whole team were working incredibly hard and this soon paid dividends again. A strong scrum by Sils pack saw us turn the ball over which enabled Ethan to collect and charge down the wing to score his second in the corner.
Paviors then found their rhythm and for the remainder of the half, played some great and intelligent rugby. They scored two tries before the interval but could have easily scored a couple more if it wasn't for some unfortunate handling errors. Sils defence was again outstanding with Jamie, Harrison and Kyle notably working hard to protect our try line.
Woody also chasing their player half the length of the pitch to tackle him and prevent a try was also indicative of the whole team's spirit and commitment.
Half Time
Sils 12 Paviors 10
The second half kicked off and it became apparent that we looked incredibly fired up and started playing fantastic rugby. Line speed, ball through hands and team work were all now being exercised with abundance.
Next score came from some hard work at the breakdown in Paviors 22 which saw the ever lively Oscar taking the ball and going on a darting, weaving run to score a great try under the sticks. Jacob duly converting.
More Sils pressure led to Ross score in classic number 8 style with a lovely pick and go and a strong charge over the line, for Jacob to kick the conversion with ease.
Paviors continued to play with desire and enthusiasm but just seemed to struggle to get out of their half.
Next score came, once again, from some great play from the Sils pack. The ever reliant Ben Maguire taking the honours this time, spotting a gap and making a strong run to score a well deserved try.
Sils now had their noses well in front and Paviors were struggling a bit to deal with the shear amount of attacks we were launching. It was lovely to watch these attacks coming from such a varied range of play. Some great individual skills, well rehearsed moves and lots of support play was a joy to witness.
Jamie was next to chalk his name on the score sheet. Once again the ball going through hands to finally reach Jamie who went on a determined and fast charge for the Paviors try line stepping a couple of defenders en route.
Final score of the day went to Jacob who took the ball on the half way line and then handed off two defenders to go on a strong run and score a lovely try.
This was a great game of rugby to watch and credit to the whole team and supporting parents for making the journey. I think we were all rewarded by watching such an entertaining game
