Today we travelled to Nuneaton for another match with a tough team.
Due to training being cancelled at home, we arrived with a squad of 22 and the boys all appeared up for a good game.
The match started well with lots of strongly contested rugby being played and Sils pack working as hard as ever. The one thing which has been apparent this season is how mobile our forwards all are. This has been commented on by other teams as well and rightly so. This element of a rugby team is the backbone of a win, without forwards working hard the backs see nothing of the ball, simple as that.
First try of the game went to Haani who once again had positioned himself perfectly to receive the ball. Jamie collected the ball from an unorthodox football style kick from Ethan, then carried out a strong run to before offloading to Haani. Conversion attempt unsuccessful.
Some more tough rugby and fiercely contested breakdowns led to our second try. A great team score which saw Kyle turning the ball over to release our backs. Ball through hands saw Haani off loading to Jacob for him to score under the posts and duly convert very well.
Unfortunately there then followed a incident. A borderline Nuneaton tackle resulting in Noah having to leave the park with a suspected head injury. We all wish him the very best. The incident was later discussed and it was agreed by all that other options were available to the referee at the time.
Final try of the half was glorious. A great clearance kick from Jacob saw Jamie putting his burners on and with a lovely bounce from the ball, gathered and went over for Sils third of the half. Ethan converting for the additional 2 points.
Half Time Nuneaton 0 Sils 19
The second half kicked off and we were now watching Sils in full flight. We seemed to be on top with work rate which saw us winning nearly all of the collisions.
Next try went to Mark Berry. Some lovely team rugby saw the ball going through just about the whole of the back line for Mark to collect and go on a strong run into the corner for an excellent and thoroughly deserved try.
Our forwards continued to be the engine room, Joe A, Ben Garside and Harrison F all having a great game and although scrum time was tough, we still seemed to have the upper hand and continued to win possession. Unfortunately Harrison had to leave the field later with an injury after putting in a monster hit!
Next try came from Ethan who collected just inside our half and charged for the line, handing off a couple of players on his way for our second try of the half.
Nuneaton then got one for themselves but unfortunately could not convert.
Final try of the game once again went to Mark Berry. This try came from a glorious chase from Charlie who ran a good 30 yards to hit their player hard and win the ball. This led to Ben Smith charging forward before off-loading to Mark for another great try.
This was a tough and sometimes disjointed game but once again proves that our boys can adapt to play any style of rugby. A pleasure to watch this team as always.
Final Score Nuneaton 5 Sils 34
