Kidderminster v Silhillians
An away trip to Kidderminster was next up for Sils and the quality of the grass could only be akin to a shaggy “Kidderminster” carpet. There was however nothing shaggy about the first 25 mins as both teams battled hard to keep possession and gain any strangle hold on the game. Kidderminster’s rucking was just edging it at the breakdowns, but for all their hard work Sils never let them take advantage and were quick to stop any potential break from Kidderminster. The first score came from a forward pass from Kiddy, which Sils forwards took advantage of from the scrum, followed by some better rucking allowing room for the backs to get the ball out along the line quickly and eventually out to Jamie who scored in the corner, a good effort from Elliot just falling short for the conversion. From the restart Sils broke forward in numbers and with Ross and Louis almost combing to score but to be held up close to the line. The resulting ruck controversially penalizing Sils even though the Kiddy player appeared to juggle the ball while lying on the ground at the bottom of the ruck. This didn’t matter too much however as the resulting Penalty led to nothing and the half was brought to an end.
Half Time 0 – 5
The second half started differently as Sils came out firing on all cylinders. Sils forwards turning over at the ruck. Elliot, Ethan and Ben S combining with the latter breaking at speed from inside Sils half to score under the posts, easily converted Elliot. After the initial shock Kiddy got themselves back together and battled well with Sils conceding a penalty and Kiddy kicking to touch. Sils however from the line managed to turnover at the ruck and a fantastic move with Ben S breaking supported by Ben G and some excellent interlink play between these two eventually finding Ben S again to break free and score his 2nd try, a truly excellent try. Converted well from a long way out from Jacob. With Sils now gaining momentum Kiddy still worked hard but Sils forwards and backs working well together seemed to be unstoppable. A Kiddy kick clear was picked up By Ethan who broke through to get his name on the score sheet. No conversion. Sils from the front and through the backs were now performing well. Great pressure from Sils had Kiddy kicking clear to touch just 5 yards out from the Kiddy try line, from the lineout Sils driving maul led to Henry going over to add his name to the score sheet. An excellent conversion from Jacob. A great pick up from Callum gave Sils advantage at the ruck with Jacob feeding Harrison who’s break had support from Ethan from the resulting Ruck Oscar picked up and broke blind side with support from Ben Graddon to score in the corner. No conversion. With that being the last bit of action of the game.
A very tight first half with neither side giving much away transformed in the 2nd half as Sils strength proved too much for a good Kidderminster side who just couldn’t break down the Sils defence.
Final Score 0 - 36
