This Sunday we played our final pool game in the Warwickshire Cup against Shipston on Stour RFC.
The game kicked off and once again Sils showed their intent with some good strong rucking and all the boys looking very alert.
First try went to Haani who received the ball on the wing and cut inside two advancing defenders to score under the sticks. Elliot converting for the additional points.
Sils continued with great intensity constantly breaking the gain line to put Shipston on the back foot.
Second score saw the ball fed really well through the Sils backs for Jacob to eventually get his hands on it and score a great team try.
Sils forwards were as always working incredibly hard. Their speed around the park and hitting the breakdowns with determination was lovely to watch.
Next try was to go to Jamie. Some good work by our pack saw Jamie receive the ball then run an intelligent line to evade the chasing defenders and score in the corner. Elliot converting well.
Shipston continued to press hard and were playing some good rugby but just couldn’t break the Sils defence.
Final try of the half went again to Haani. Sils turning the ball over at the breakdown enabled him to go on a fast and powerful run to score his second. Elliot again converting well.
Half Time: Sils 26. Shipston 0
The second half began and Shipston seemed more fired up and determined. Again stringing together some good phases but just not quite breaking through our defence.
The next try was a gem. A lovely chip through from Elliot saw the Shipston player fumble and Woody seize the loose ball after chasing well, to score a great try.
We all then witnessed a moment of forwards magic. Sils pack forming a driving maul on the half way line and then marching it up beyond the Shipston 22. Control and power was exercised impeccably!
Next score went to Ethan. Another strong maul by our pack saw him receive the ball and smash through a defender to touch down in the corner. Elliot adding the additional points again.
Sils were displaying great teamwork. They all knew where their teammates were and more importantly knew when to use them. Strong runs and drawing in defenders was great to watch and text book rugby.
Ross was next to add his name to the scoresheet. A great run by Oscar saw Woody supporting who ran a nice line to eventually offload for Ross to score under the posts. Elliot converting once again.
Final score of the day went to Oscar. Some more great work at the breakdown saw him take the ball and charge up his wing, handing off a player beautifully to score a well deserved try.
Shipston eventually scored a try which they thoroughly deserved for their hard efforts all afternoon.
This was more than anything a great display of teamwork today. Not one selfish player on the park and 15 lads who trust their own instincts as well as their fellow players.
Final score: Sils 50 Shipston 5
