This Sunday we welcomed Droitwich after Bromsgrove had cancelled and once again, John worked his magic and quickly arranged another game.
The game kicked off and Sils were looking alert right from the start. Quick ball from an early breakdown saw Ethan charge up the middle of the park, tackled and then back on his feet to stretch and dot down for our first score. Elliot converting for the extra points.
Droitwich were looking strong and clearly had some intelligent rugby players, spreading the ball well and competing hard.
Next score went to Jamie after Haani had made a strong run up the wing. The breakdown saw our forwards working well to regain possession which then saw the ball going through hands before eventually finding Jamie who supported well to score in the corner. Elliot again converting well.
The game continued to be a tough, physical encounter and our pack were looking incredibly mobile. Noah and Joe A in particular making a real nuisance of themselves at the breakdown.
Third try went to Ethan. Our pack once again exerting power and determination to win the ball and then off loading to Ethan on the blindside to run up the wing for his second.
Droitwich continued to push hard but were struggling to break their gain line. Sils were now firing on all 4 cylinders!
Next try was a joy to watch. Ben Garside was, as always, all over the park and managed to turn the ball over at the ruck after Haani had made a try saving tackle. The ball then went through just about all of the backs before finding Haani who worked hard to make ground and score his first of the game. Elliot adding the extra points.
Sils continued to dominate the scrum, winning ball on the Droitwich put in on many occasions. Oscar was having a great game at open side and looked lively all morning.
Next try was once again from a strong Sils breakdown. The ball being popped out from the base to Ethan who ran straight and strong to score in the corner.
It was nice to see Harrison having a particularly strong game along with his first captaincy which he was clearly enjoying and motivating the team well.
Our next score came from a good clearance kick by Smithy, the ball bouncing down the touch line to finally go out a good 40 meters upfield.
The resulting line out was well won by Sils who then kicked on again for Haani to chase and fall on and score his second of the game. Conversion successful by Elliot.
The game continued in much the same fashion. Droitwich constantly working hard and looking good in lots of ways but Sils defence was just too well organised for them to breach.
Next score again went to Sils. A high tackle on Harrison saw Sils playing the advantage and after a great grubber kick from Elliot, saw Ethan collect and charge up the wing to score his fourth of the game. Elliot again converting.
We were now all enjoying a somewhat try fest. It wasn’t just the number of tries being scored but the manner in which the whole team went about their jobs. Teamwork and commitment was a joy to witness.
Last try of the half came from another strong Sils breakdown. The ball working it’s way to the base saw a very alert Callum body guarding well to give Ethan time to put in a nice cross field kick which found Haani on the wing. A short run and step and he was over yet again for his third of the day. Elliot converting well.
Half time Sils:52 Droitwich:0
The second half began and Droitwich looked fired up. Some strong carries and big hits going in was great to watch. Their hard work and grit finally paid off when they found their giant winger to go on a strong run and score their first try. Conversion successful.
Sils once again though, moved up a gear. A great carry from Jonathan saw him eventually tackled and an alert Harrison picked up to go over for a well deserved try. Elliot again converting.
Droitwich continued to push and notched up two more tries in quick succession.
Final Sils try went to Jacob who picked a nice line after receiving the ball, to then go on a great weaving run and score. Elliot adding the extra points again.
Droitwich never gave up and thoroughly deserved the last score of the day.
This was, once again, a fantastic team performance and the quality of the tries coming from so many different plays is an absolute testament to the way these boys play this wonderful game. Well done to the whole team!
Final Score Sils:66 Droitwich:26
