This week we welcomed Camp Hill on a bitterly cold January morning.
A good turn out by Sils saw a strong squad selected for this fixture.
The game kicked off and due to lots of cold fingers both sides were making handling errors. Sils looked good at the breakdown with our pack contesting as physically as they always do. This hard graft in challenging conditions led to our first try. The ball being won by Sils and then fed through our back line to eventually find Luke to score in the corner. We then saw a period of knock ons and lots of restarts which Sils contested well and continually won ball.
Second try went to Henry, after a strong driving maul led by Joe and Jonathan, saw Henry get his hands on the ball and go over for a well earned try.
Some more good rugby followed with CH showing grit and determination but unable to break the gain line. Max collecting the ball deep saw him go on a lovely weaving run all the way past the half way line but unfortunately the resulting breakdown led to nothing.
Next to score was Jonathan which, after a lovely crash ball, saw him go over and score.
Sils pack continued to be more mobile than CH with Ben Maguire having an outstanding game and also Kyle and Tom working very hard.
Final try of the half went to the ever hard working Mark Berry. The Sils pack showing good work to distribute the ball with sheer power (as well as their cold hands!), saw Mark eventually get the ball to go over in the corner.
Half Time Sils 20 Camp Hill 0
The second half kicked off and Sils continued to dominate at the breakdown.
Lots of possession and attacking pace was leaving CH with a lot to do defensively. Max continued to probe and launch attacks even from his full back position which was great to watch.
Next try went to Tom, who after a well controlled maul, saw him collect the ball and skilfully evade a CH defender to score another good team try. Conversion successful by Max
Camp Hill eventually got the try they deserved as their heads never dropped and their whole squad continued to play physical, committed rugby.
The game continued in much the same fashion with the Sils backs getting plenty of quality ball from our pack. Ben Graddon looked threatening every time he got his hands on the ball. It is good to see him back from his rib injury and as enthusiastic as ever.
Mark Berry then scored his second of the game. A lovely attacking passage of play at speed and accuracy saw Mark take the ball and charge over to score our sixth try of the game.
Our seventh try of the day saw Luke notch his name onto the scores sheet once more.
A clever tap and go penalty from Scott saw the Sils backs attack at pace and he took the ball to go over for a lovely score.
Although all of the parents were now frozen to the core, our lads had certainly warmed up and their constant pounding of the CH defence finally led to our last try of the day.
Max once again going on a weaving run, breaking two tackles and lining himself up nicely to score between the sticks. Jamie Rachman converting for the extra points.
Today was a good old fashioned, hard fought game in cold conditions and everyone who took to the park today should be proud of themselves and the effort they showed.
Final Score: Sils 44 Camp Hill 5
