Sils v Worcester
After many weeks of both training and matches being cancelled due to bad weather we at last got to see some rugby. With Worcester the visitors today, after winning the toss Worcester decide to turn the teams round which is not something we see on a regular basis. From the kick Worcester showed they weren’t going to be holding back, some strong rugby from both sides with Sils a little on the back foot and after only 5 mins Worcester gained a penalty and another unusual decision came when opted to go for the 3 points, which they were successful at.
The restart continued in the same manor with Worcester camped in the sils 22 for most of the first 15 mins. Sils however were defending well against a determined and at times aggressive Worcester side. Worcester Penalty had them kick to touch with Sils turning over from the line out allowing Ethan to break well with good support from Mark who advanced into the Worcester half before being bundled into touch. With Sils starting to put the pressure on a Worcester kick straight to touch from outside there 22 gave sils a chance to advantage. The Sils pack the drive on from the line forcing Worcester back inside there 22 allowing Scott to feed Ethan who broke through the Worcester defence to score with Jacob converting.
This was much better now from Sils as they began to put pressure on a Worcester scrum had them clearing to touch, at the resulting ruck a moment of madness from the Worcester back saw him yellow carded for illegal use of the feet. The Sils penalty was kicked to touch and from the line out a great piece of work from the Sils pack driving the maul over the line for Harri B to touch down, one word….. perfection.
After the restart a Worcester penalty failed to reach touch and with Ben S collecting well and feeding Ethan who couldn’t quite break through the strong Worcester defence but the resulting ruck was dealt with by Sils allowing Mark to break with a good run feeding Ethan then Jamie who went over to end a well worked Sils move.
Half Time 17 - 3
The 2nd half started with both sides giving away advantages,Sils forwards were having to work hard with some much better rucking and an even better site with hooker (Harri B)and prop (Joe A)linking up well on the wing,
A quickly taken Sils penalty ended with Mark going over for a well deserved try. From the Worcester line a kick clear ended in the hands of Ben S who’s good run led to Nick going over for Sils 5th try well converted Elliot.
From the restart Tom collected well and from the resulting ruck Sils kicked clear with Nathan chasing down well to produce the ball from the ruck for Ben S to collect and go over for Sils 6th try.
Things were starting to get a bit heated as Sils were awarded a penalty for lifting in the tackle, the Referee needed to take control a bit now as two more were shown yellow cards as a brawl ensued from a Worcester scrum with the Worcester Tight-head and the Sils hooker. Both going for the early bath.
A couple of injuries to note Woody (perforated ear) which will see him miss the next 6 weeks and will be very much missed we hope you get well soon Mate. Noah and Henry (ankle) and Jacob (wrist) hope you both get well soon
A great response from Sils who played some great rugby to come out deserved winners
