Codes of Conduct 3 of 6

3. M&J Player’s Code of Conduct

SRUFC expects all players within the Mini & Junior sections to be made aware of this Code and the expectations of the Club. In particular, players must adopt the mentality[

“I am proud to play rugby for SRUFC and I know I should play and behave properly”.

SRUFC supports the RFU Core Values of Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship.

TEAMWORK

o Remember that rugby is a team game; do the best for teammates and do not try to grab the glory.
o Control your emotions and do not use bad language or nasty behaviour towards teammates.
o Help teammates, opponents, coaches and officials; rugby cannot be played alone.

RESPECT

o Respect everyone (opponents, coaches and referees) and always treat others in the way you would like to be treated.
o Respect opponents in all matches and do not play unfairly.
o Listen to coaches at all times and be committed to taking training seriously.
o Respect good play from opponents and other members of their team.

ENJOYMENT

o Have fun and enjoy rugby.
o Realise the coaches want to make SRUFC a fun and safe place for all to play rugby and talk to a coach or manager at the club if I you are unhappy.

DISCIPLINE

o Play to the Laws of Rugby; know that any verbal or physical abuse is unacceptable.
o Never argue with referees or coaches; their decision is final (even if a player thinks that they may be wrong).

SPORTSMANSHIP

o Always be a good sportsman – ‘play to win but lose with a grin’.
o Always train and play to the best of my ability to develop my skills.
o Accept defeat, and with good grace and try harder next time.
o Never show off, lose your cool, pick on other players or generally misbehave – it is not part of rugby.

If I do not follow this code, I may:

• Have to apologise to other players, coaches or referees.
• Be substituted or dropped during matches or sat out of training.
• Be suspended from training or playing.
• Be given a formal warning from the SRUFC Disciplinary Committee.
• Have my membership suspended and be asked to leave the club.
