Not one for the rugby purists, this. But on an angry, ugly afternoon in Coventry, Sils pulled through for another well-deserved bonus point win.
Yet again, Sils started strongly, putting Pinley under pressure up front before slinging the ball wide, Jack Hobbs and Ben Crowe finishing well in both corners.
Pinley responded with a try of their own as a result of poor defence, but Crowe continued his fine kicking form of late by slotting a penalty to keep the home side at arm's length. The score remained at 15-7 going into the break.
The second half objective was clear - 2 more tries. After some early exchanges, captain Olly Beech broke the line and drew the last man, before delivering a spectacular out-the-back-of-the-hand spin pass to a delighted Jack Hobbs, who ran in his second and Sils' third.
It was not long before Sils bagged their bonus point. A well-placed kick forced the Pinley wing to run the ball out, and Sils emulated their textbook catch-and-drive from the previous week for Fred Howard to bundle over. Job done, almost.
Pinley had their best spell of the game in the final quarter, as successive forward carries took them into the clubhouse corner. After a brief break in play for some - shall we say - extra-curricular activity, Pinley barged over. 29-12.
Sils saw out the remainder with no change to the scoreline, until Beech instructed Crowe to slot another penalty in the last play of the game. Crowe duly obliged, capping off a stellar individual performance with a try, three out of four conversions and two penalties to his name.
Sils are now 7 from 8 in all competitions, but begin a tough run of fixtures next week, hosting unbeaten league leaders Rugby Lions at Copt Heath.
