Sils travelled to Cheltenham North in their fifth league game of the season and fully deserved a comprehensive victory at a ground they lost at last season. After early disruption in the warm up, losing Joe Brawn to an ankle injury, Sils shuffled the squad to give a first start of the season to Patrick Fisher.
The home side started brightly, going over the line within the first 10 minutes but dropped the ball when all they needed to do was touch down – this was the wake-up call that the visitors needed. Sils response was 3 unanswered tries by half time with Chris McDermott finishing a strong drive from the pack and Harry Law adding a brace from inside centre.
Cameron Law secured a bonus point for the Sils within minutes of the restart with a fine try out wide after good work from the pack. Minutes later winger, Tom Waters, popped up at the back of a rolling maul to add five points for himself and Steve Hawkins finished some excellent backs play to add a try to his 3 conversions just before the 60 minute mark. Sils continued to pin the home side back deep into their own half but a spirited Cheltenham side battled back and scored two tries before Cameron Law, not to be outdone by his brother, completed his brace and capped another excellent performance. The final score was 12-41 and Sils take confidence and carry momentum into this weekend’s fixture as they entertain unbeaten league leaders Newbold On Avon at Copt Heath, 3pm kick-off.
