Once again, the Silhillians were forced into some personnel changes due to availabilities and injuries. Phil Martin replaced captain Tom Lee in the starting line up with Stephen Hall taking great pride by wearing the captains arm band in tom’s absence.
The game started positively for the home side who looked sharp from the off. Backs and forwards piling on the pressure with line breaks a plenty. This pressure meant it didn’t take long for Sil’s to cross the whitewash with Dan Walker bagging the opening score. Sils early momentum was aided when the OC’s open side decided to attempt a trip on Steve Hall, resulting in a 10 minute rest in the sin bin. This was quickly followed up with a Jon Davies try, flopping over after a Dan Truepenny offload. Sils fluidity and class shone through even more when Ben Crowe rounded off another nice link up from the Sils back line.
The stand out skill of the game must go to his royal heiness Toby Wasse II, King of Grubbering, for his deft kick through which saw Dan Walker scurry through and onto the scoresheet once more. Old Covs briefly regained some momentum with two scores of their own in what was becoming an open game to say the least.
The cleanest Sils score came just before the half. Lineout 40m’s out, Fred Arrow Howard hitting his jumper perfectly, centre partnership David McNidder and Matt Lee combining with some strong boshing and then running from Matt Lee getting him under the posts.
The OCs bagged another score just after half time, 38-19 was the closest the score was going to be all day. From their the Sils accelerated even further. A welcome return from Loz White saw him bag a try. Matt Lee, Dan Walker (hatrick hero) and David McNidder all then added further scores to leave the Sils with a content 57-19 victory.
Next up is Old Laurentians away following a well-deserved week off.
