With two games left to play, Sils showed their superb skills in stamina, determination, agility and resilience as they overcame a run of losses to secure their first win in four matches.

Kiwi newcomer Stefan Detounis started the game with two huge tackles and gave Sils the opportunity to keep Burton from pushing forward.

Ollie Beech managed a great run through Burton defence but was taken down eventually and possession was kept by Sils who kicked out.

Mark O’Leary gained possession from the lineout and with his awesome power ran through the defenders to put Sils further into Burton half.

But this momentous start was short lived as Sils were penalised for holding on, but to the delight of the crowd Burton miss the posts.

As the restart commenced Matt Lee picked up possession for a full 30 meter sprint into Burton space, but after a huge tackle Burton took possession and pushed down the line.

Sils kept the pressure on and Burton seemed to feel the heat from the stampede that was Sils pushing forward as Steve Hawkins pushed through several defenders to be taken down, but a further penalty was awarded to Burton who kicked out.

As the scrum is taken, Sils appear to lose the upper hand and are penalised for dropping the scrum. Fifteen minutes of play gone and Burton put the first points on the board 0-3.

This doesn’t deter Sils in their quest for a victory, as they show great turnover and kept pushing into Burton half. Burton defended well but the passing through the Sils line was impeccable.

Moments later a lack of concentration allowed Burton the gap they needed, as Sils defence crumbled and Burton scored first try of the game 21 minutes in. 0-10 after successful conversion.

Sils rise to the challenge and are awarded penalty for holding on, but after the penalty was taken quickly, Mark O’Leary was bought down hard, and a moment of insanity from the ref saw Burton awarded a further penalty, were outward expression from the sidelines were displayed.

Sils took possession from the lineout, but were called back to re-take as the line wasn’t straight.

Thirty minutes in and an penalty to Sils was taken with a short kick to Matt Bacon who ran effortlessly through Burton defenders, with a brilliant pass to Tama Grant-Hill who secured Sils first try of the afternoon. 7-10.

From the restart, a lack of concentration from Sils saw Burton push through defenders with a run half the length of the pitch, but a great try saving run from Matt Lee averted disaster.

Nick Powell was taken down hard following a scrum just off centre line, which saw Burton take possession, but with some outstanding tackling from Tama Grant-Hill, Sils managed to keep control of the game.

As ball is passed to Matt Lee, he makes a huge run but as he lost his step the ball falls to the ground and Burton take him down with a huge tackle, but were penalised for tackling player without ball.

Sils play is remarkable, and feels like a different pace being played. They continue to defend and push, but Burton judge Sils defenders just right as they found the gap and manage to score their second try of the first half, scores 7-17.

Burton start the second half in control, as they put Sils under pressure, but Sils are awarded a penalty almost immediately and Steve Hawkins puts the ball exactly where it needed to go, putting a further three points on the board.

The second half showed signs of fatigue from both teams with some scruffy play, but Sils determination and willing shined through their performance as an interception by Stefan Detounis saw him run through to the 10 meter line inside Burton half.

A further penalty to Sils had Steve Hawkins kick to corner, which gave them the opportunity to put Burton under further pressure. As the game continued, the pace was quickened with quick penalty being taken without thought, and as players collided a moment of frustration broke out which secured Nick Elliot a yellow card.

Sils now down to 14 men took a further penalty, but the wind kept it just outside of the posts. As they picked themselves up Nick Powell found the hole in Burton defence and pushed through to secure Sils second try of the game. Twenty minutes of second half gone and Sils claw back points to 15-17.

Sils incurred a further few infringements as they continue to defend well and keep the pressure on, as they are called back for forward passing and penalised for holding on right under the posts which gave Burton opportunity to score from another penalty.

Tensions move from a simmer to a boil, as the ref gives Burton penalty for holding on, but it’s clear from the sidelines that is was Burton player doing the holding. Burton took quickly and Sils intercepted.

Sils were momentous in their campaign to win as they secure another penalty which gave Steve Hawkins a further opportunity to shine as he depleted the gap in the scoring to 18-20 with ten minutes left.

Burton defended well and from a Sils lineout they missed a penalty which allowed Sils to hammer through their defence to their 10 meter line.

As the ball got knocked on by Burton, the crowd erupt as Sils awarded another penalty. Steve Hawkins lined himself up and took a moment to check as he powered the kick through the posts in the 79th minute.

Steve Hawkins third penalty of the game saw him land his 200th league point for the season, and put that all important victory on the board 21-20.

As the last few minutes of the game and extra time were played, Sils kept the pressure on and didn’t falter their immaculate performance.

With a bus to Hereford for their match on 5th April, this win has ensured a great sense of pride, as Sils push themselves back up the league table to Eighth, as their first season in this league approaches its end.
