Sils travelled north to run away league leaders Newport (Salop) knowing that they were in for a difficult afternoon. Newport (Salop) were unbeaten and had conceded an average of only 11 points per game whilst they had amassed over 600 points themselves.
Sils were soon on the back foot as Newport (Salop) crossed for an unconverted try inside 3 minutes.
Sils responded well and on 10 mins they had the lead. Winger Matt Lee charged down a kick and gathered to run in unopposed under the posts. Ollie Trace added the extras.
Newport (Salop) then found their stride and their heavier pack started to show their dominance. By the half hour mark Newport (Salop) had re-established their lead and gained their bonus point courtesy of three more tries, two of which were pushovers.
With the score at 33-7 and half time approaching Newport (Salop) appeared to be cruising but Sils were having none of it. Ill discipline by the Newport (Salop) pack resulted in the losehead being yellow carded just before half time.
The second period started well with the Sils pack making the most of the extra man. Following a series of attacking phases Sils found themselves camped in the Newport (Salop) 22. From a 5m lineout a well rehearsed training ground move saw back row Tom Manise drive over for Sils' second try. (33-12)
Ten minutes later Sils found themselves in an identical position. Newport (Salop) were again unable to defend the catch and drive and this time is was utility forward Nick Elliott who emerged from the bottom of the pile with the ball tucked under his arm. (33-17)
Newport (Salop) found their stride again and ran in two more converted tries to make the score 47-17 with 5 mins to play.
Sils were reduced to 14 when scrum half Tom Lee was yellow carded for a deliberate knock on.
With a never say die attitude Sils continued to attack and were rewarded when Matt Lee went on a powerful run into the heart of the Newport (Salop) midfield and crossed the line with two defender hanging off him for his second and Sils' fourth try of the afternoon to gain a much needed bonus point. Ollie Trace added the extras. 47-24.
