Sils took control of the first 10 minutes or so and dominated the play, things looked promising! We were camped in their 22 and eventually the pressure and possession told with a great move down the back line for George to go over for a try in the corner.
From then on Irish came back into the game and Sils were unable to build on that early domination and lead. Irish reacted to going behind and a period of intense pressure on the Sils line resulted in them driving over for a try which was then converted giving them the lead. The remainder of the half was played from end to end but finished with a penalty from Irish giving them a 10-5 lead.
The second began with Irish kicking another penalty to make the lead 13-5.
I think the London Irish coaches and supporters would agree that they had the benefit of the doubt from the ref a more than a few times; there was definitely confusion on the touch-line.
Sils finally woke up again in the dying minutes of the game and cam close to scoring a couple of times only to find themselves penalised and marched back down the field. Irish did get back into Sils half and a charge down and follow through led to another try.
London Irish are probably the toughest side we have played against and despite the score we enjoyed our trip down to Sunbury. We look forward to hosting them in Solihull next season.
