Weather forecasts. Can’t rely on them can you?
Forecast for Walsall Sunday morning. Dry.
Actual weather? Rain. Plenty of it.
20 minutes before kick off on an already sticky pitch we got a good soaking. By the time the warm up had finished a couple of the lads looked like they had played a full game. Lovely stuff mud. And we even lost the unfortunate Jack Regan to injury before the start of the game. Hope there’s no damage Jack.
Perhaps because of the conditions the first 15 minutes, was a messy disjointed affair until the first try was scored. Sils had to soak up a fair bit of pressure inevitable from a well-supported home team and there was little to choose in the territorial battles.
After that a remarkable 79 points were scored in the remaining 35 minutes of the game. A poorly conceived tactical kicking game was clinically dismembered by the Sils players who gleefully ran back box kicks, penalties and kicks ahead, scoring a number of ties in that fashion. But beyond their opponents’ mistakes there were some truly breath-taking team tries: the sort of side to side, multi-phase, precise clear outs and swift passing that leaves even the home supporters voicing their admiration. In all Sils amassed 74 points and conceded their first try in 3 matches.
On that try – memo to all the boys – check the score – even after you complain the ref doesn’t change his decision. Waste of energy all round.
And the forecast for this week? A long journey on Wednesday night for those involved in GBR Vs Shropshire (so no training at Sils) and a very tough fixture Away at Stourbridge on Sunday. And the weather? Well anybody’s guess but wet is certainly odds on.
