It can be pretty frustrating being a teenager I am sure. Lots of rules. Annoying adults. Being asked to concentrate when you just want to chat. Sometimes, just sometimes, the penny drops that there is a reason for that annoying stuff.
The first half on Sunday against a well organised and committed Broadstreet side was, by the standards of what our lads are capable of……….shambolic. It started in the changing room – chatting over the coaches when they were trying to talk. It continued on the way to the pitch - bit more disrespect for the team and the opposition. And continued in the approach to the warm up which was disjointed and unfocused. You reap what you sow gentlemen.
Now it should be pointed out that it was not all the lads who were like this. The very plentiful support for Sils on the side-lines would have seen half a dozen of the side give courageous performances in the first half. We know who they were and so do they. The support was magnificent – Thank You. Half time 7-7. Let’s not talk about their try. Too painful.
It got better. About 90% better.
Half time was all about Mitch our captain, who gave a rousing half time team talk and a sharp reminder of what was required. The second half was a different matter altogether. Brilliant attitude, wonderful pace and skill and a proper hardnosed attitude to doing what was needed to win. Four cracking team tries laced with individual flair. Mitch led from the front in word and deed and the troops followed.
In the end everybody can look back on the morning and be in credit, as everyone played well. The problems in the first half were collective as was the turnaround. Congratulations to Christian Green who made his debut on Sunday – hope he enjoyed his morning.
Think the lads can be satisfied in the end with their 7-36 victory. The rusty complacency has been knocked off now – please can we keep it that way?
