After last week's slow start, positively the lads wanted to show a more determined way to play and they got it right in spectacular style - Tom Metcalfe scoring straight from receiving the kickoff to set the tone for the day. In fact, the first 3 plays resulted in 3 tries and a 19-0 score line before Old Coventrians even touched the ball!
To be fair, the opposition were clearly a developing side, playing in a spirited manner throughout, however they proved no match for our bunch of revved up teenagers.
After 10 minutes and the score racking up on a wet and windy day, we started substituting to give all the squad game time and a chance to keep warm, but the tries kept coming despite the lads starting to get a bit complacent, making it 45-0 at half time.
The second half saw some of the complacency turn toward sloppiness and after some ragged forward play, we all agreed to call it a day at 62-0 with at least 10 minutes left, to avoid any risk of injury.
The main lessons were obvious - start strong and then don't lose focus or intensity.
Well done lads and good luck to Old Covs for the rest of the season.
