Today, thanks to the Sils 1st XV coach, we welcomed Cheltenham Bournside School.
Match No.2 kicked off and both sides started to play some well organised and competitive rugby. Sils' pack were, as always, working hard to secure ball and feed our backs.
A strong CB scrum just inside their 22 saw one of their players kick for touch but the ball, unfortunately for them, went vertical. As it fell to earth (with snow on it!) Jamie leapt like a salmon to catch and drop on the ball, to score his first of the game.
Some more good rugby followed and the second try again went to Sils. Our pack working hard to enable Ben Graddon to charge forward and offload to the ever hardworking Mark Berry to score his first try of the game.
Not long after, Jamie once again put his name on the score sheet , taking a crash ball at scrum time to go over for a really well worked try. Max converted well from a drop kick.
CB continued to work hard with some hard tackling and probing runs. Sils' fourth try went to Oscar who was, as always, alert to everything around him. He made a great break down the wing before being tackled. Ben Garside claimed the ball at the breakdown and went on another surging run before offloading at the tackle, back to Oscar, for him to go over in the corner for a great try.
Next to score was Tom Ward. Tom had been playing some great rugby and was making a real nuisance of himself at scrum time. He took the ball after some good work by all of the pack and identified a gap which he exploited for his well earned try.
By now Sils were well on top and the whole team were working hard and causing CB problems.
Final try of the half again went to Tom who did a beautiful little pick and go from the base of another strong Sils scrum, to dive over for his second of the game.
Half TIme: Sils 32 Bournside 0
The second half kicked off and Ben Graddon was next to score after some quick, recycled ball saw him go on another strong run to score his second of the game.
CB never gave up the fight and their hard work was justly rewarded with their first try soon after.
Next score saw Mark Berry once again charging forward with strength and true grit (Thomas Waldron springs to mind!) to score another great try.
It was as always a pleasure for everyone watching to see the boys playing as a team, linking well and all being completely unselfish with the ball.
Joe Munns, who continues to get stronger week by week, was next to score. Woody was switched to the wing (and no this is not a typo!) who went on a great run, brushing off several attempts to tackle him. The ball was again recycled for Joe to go crashing over for a lovely try.
Final score of the match went to Charlie, who continues to threaten defences every game. He received the ball on the CB 22 line and, with several players still hanging onto him, went crashing over for a great try.
Another great team performance, and for me personally, another game I would have happily paid to watch. Well done boys!
Final Score:
Sils 54 Bournside 5
