Nuneaton at home

Today, on a cold October morning we welcomed Nuneaton.
They looked formidable opponents when they ran onto the park with some very big lads and a clearly well experienced team of coaches.
The game kicked off and right from the start Nuns began to show their strength and organisational qualities. Sils struggling to compete equally at the breakdown and being muscled off the ball with some ease. This pressure soon paid off for Nuns when they went over for their first try of the match.
I think all of us parents began to contemplate the prospect of a tough game and the boys would need to step up to the plate for this encounter.
Well, step up they certainly did! A strongly contested maul in the Sils half saw Ethan rip the ball from a Nuns player and then ran the length of the pitch, outrunning the chasing opposition, to bring Sils level. Conversion successful by Elliot.
The game then began to look like a battle of the forwards as play continued in the middle of the park with strongly contested rucks and mauls from both sides.
Sils won the next battle at the breakdown which saw Nathan receive the ball to go on a very strong run to score his first thoroughly deserved try of the game.
Nuns continued to threaten every time they had the ball but our defence was rock solid. More often than not games are analysed by the attacking attributes of a team but we must never underestimate the importance of a strong, well organised defence which Sils were now displaying with great maturity.
Last try of the half came from some well recycled ball from Sils with Elliot putting in an great cross field kick for Nathan to read well and catch and score for a great second try. Elliot again converting well. We unfortunately had to lose Jack H at the break due to an injury after he had had a particularly strong half.

Half Time Sils 19 Nuns 5

The second half kicked off and by now Sils were looking more and more comfortable in all areas. Some great performances were being put in by the whole team with Kyle, Ben Garside and Callum all working exceptionally hard. A recognition also for Harri B who's throws at the line-out were on the money every time.
Next score came from a ruck on the half way line which saw Ethan do a great grubber kick through. He then chased the ball, picked up and off loaded to the perfectly positioned Henry C to go over for a glorious team try. Elliot converting once again.
By now Sils were looking stronger by the minute and we then saw Ethan execute a nice dummy which split the Nuns defence and gave him a clear sight of the line. Conversion successful.
Ross then chalked his name on the score board with a typical Ross pick and go with a strong run under the sticks. Conversion again successful.
Nuns were now finding it difficult to break our line defence and this led to turnover after turnover for Sils. This pressure saw our next try with the ball going through hands beautifully for Ethan to finally receive the ball from Ben G to go over for his third of the game in the corner. Elliot converting particularly well for the additional 2 points.
A strong Sils scrum with our front row performing admirably once again saw the ball come to our backs, going through three or four pairs of hands but all within 10 metres of the touchline, led to Max going over for a great try. Elliot again converting well from a difficult angle and winning today's cross bar challenge.
Final try of the game came from a very well rehearsed piece of play. Sils yet again fronting up at scrum time saw Ethan taking a crash ball at full tilt from Elliot just inside Nuns 22 to go over for his fourth of the game with Elliot converting again.
Another outstanding morning of rugby with the whole team playing incredibly well as individuals and as a team. Even clubs like Toulon are currently struggling with playing as a team so we should all be extremely proud of our boys and the manner in which they conduct their business every Sunday.

Final Score Sils 61 Nuns 5
