Barkers away

Sils this week were entertained on the Coventry border by Barkers Butts. Straight from the Barkers kick Sils showed there intent with Elliot collecting well feeding to Jamie and on to Ethan who waited well to draw in the Barkers defence before feeding Hanni who immediately shrugged off any attempts to stop him to score within the first minute of play, converted Elliot. Sils first scrum was won well and looked as though another score was on the cards from Hanni but this time Barkers defence held well stopping the winger in his tracks. Barkers were awarded a penalty which they chose to go to touch, from the resulting line out Barkers possession was turned over by Sils and off the back of the ruck Ross picked up and advanced forward, with a well-timed feed (drawing in the Barkers defence) to Hanni once again for his second try, converted Elliot. Barkers came back fighting and turned over at the ruck freeing the winger to run from halfway to score in the corner, no conversion. Another good break from Sils ended after a good Barkers tackle and regaining possession with a good kick having the Sils backs briefly in trouble which they recovered well. A succession of Barkers penalties, scrums and line outs ended with a good recovery from Harrison who dropped on the ball well, for Sils to regain possession. A kick clear was fumbled by the Barkers full back under pressure from Ethan who kicked along the ground, to only see the ball end in touch. The resulting line out from Barkers was eventually kicked clear where Ben S picked up well and from the resulting ruck the ball ended up in Ethan’s hands who breaking free to score under the posts, conversion Elliot. The restart not going 10 and Sills elected to take the scrum, which they won well with Ross picking up off the back and running strongly from halfway unchallenged to score, Conversion Elliot. Another Ben S break ended with a knock on and a Barkers scrum, which Sils won against the head and Ross broke clear again feeding Elliot then Ethan for his 2nd try, converted Elliot.
Half Time 5-35
A Barkers penalty and lineout was won back from a Jamie tackle with the ball spilling loose for Ethan to kick on and score his 3rd of the game, conversion Elliot. A high tackle from Barkers gave Sils a penalty, however they failed to make any use of the resulting lineout when a knock on from Sills gave Barkers the put in at the scrum which they won and broke with pace and showed some good hands in their own half feeding to the wing who broke with speed from halfway to score barkers 2nd, no conversion. Another Barkers penalty and lineout had Sills knocking on and Barkers playing on with the advantage to score their 3rd try, no conversion. A good break by Ethan had him knocking on for a Barkers scrum, a great push from Sills without gaining possession, but the kick clear from Barkers was collected well by Ben S who fed Jacob to score, Conversion Elliot. The restart was caught solidly by Elliot to Jacob whose cheeky little chip kick ran along the ground for Jamie to run onto and pick up and score Sils 8th try of the game, conversion Elliot. Throughout the game the forwards worked hard at scrum time and carried well making good yards. A great Ben S kick to touch close to the try put more pressure on the Barkers backs. From the lineout Barkers kicked clear to touch. Sills line deemed not to be straight and Barkers won the resulting scrum, but with some great pressure from Sils late on in the match ended with Henry finding himself clear in the corner to score. No conversion, (yes that’s right no conversion) Elliot’s kicking had been 100% until the last kick, which we all agreed he should take up with Henry for touching down in the corner.
Another great Sills team performance who today came up against a strong Barkers side who battled hard all the way through and never let their heads drop.
