Match Report by Ian Hilton
Sils captain for the day Ben Bryan won the toss and after a 40 minute warm up Sils kicked the game into life. Wolverhampton penalised for hands in a messy ruck, penalty to Sils taken quickly to the left wing where Arjen handed off the incoming defender to run under the posts for a rapid 5-0 soon 7 when Monty scored the conversion. Wolverhampton kicked the restart, caught by Sils who slowly worked their way back up the pitch. Lots of bodies in and around the ruck when Isaac Paris grabbed the bull by the horns and lunged for the line, 12-0 Sils 14 following successful conversion by Monty. Wolverhampton stuck to the task in hand and started to push Sils back. Quick tap penalty and a missed tackle let Wolverhampton slip in unopposed to score under the posts, duly converted for a 14-7 score line. Conceding the try seemed to spring Sils into life with a lovely move out right allowing a hard charging George Hastings to step the wide Wolverhampton defence to slide in 19-7 to Sils which stayed that way following the missed conversion from a tight angle. Working towards half time Sils started to look a little disjointed, conceding two quick penalties to an eager Wolverhampton who marched straight into the Sils 22 only for Sils to turn the ball over. Josh L running a great dummy line drew the Wolverhampton defence leaving a big hole for an even bigger Tom Masterson to crash in under the posts 24-7 quickly becoming 26-7 when Monty hit the conversion. A few moments later Wolverhampton conceded possession to a grateful Arjen who showed a clean pair of heels to run under the posts for a converted try making it 31-7 to Sils at half time.
Change at scrumhalf for the second half with Charlie Anthony handing over to Ross Hilton and it wasn’t long when a well worked line out saw Tom Masterson run a great line, off loading just short to Matt Lane who backed up superbly for a 38-7 lead when Monty hit the conversion again. Wolverhampton starting to look tired and despite some great encouragement from their travelling support Sils got the basics spot on with Ross to Tom wide to George Hastings for his second converted try 45-7 to Sils. Then the momentum started to turn with Sils conceding yards and penalties resulting in a converted Wolverhampton try 45-14. The hard work continued with a great Sils left to right sweep across the pitch where George H found Charlie Anthony out wide to score in the right corner. Monty missed the tight angled conversion 50-14 Sils. A great restart take saw Sils making the hard yards with the Sils forwards winning ruck after ruck. 10 yards out Ben Bryan breaks through the Wolverhampton defence with a strong run to drop in under the posts taking the score to 55-14, up steps Monty to slot the conversion again 57-14. The last 5 mins of the game saw a tired but hard working Wolverhampton start to push Sils back. 3 sloppy penalties gave Wolverhampton all the encouragement they needed to make it a final score of 57-21.
The Wolverhampton squad stuck at it right to the end, however a great team performance from Sils with a number of players having to play out of position made it 3 wins from 3.
