Under 15’s Victorious in First Round of the North Midlands Cup
Round one of the Cup and a good trek to Shrewsbury turned out to be worthwhile.
It took a long time to get going but after 17 minutes Sils pressure told, Shrewsbury were forced to pass the ball back over their own try line, Sils didn’t allow them to touchdown and a fumble was seized on by Smithy who got the touchdown> It was a close call for the conversion but not close enough and so Sils were 5 points up.
This looked like the tipping point with a good run from Bartley, converted by Kai and we were 12 points up and that’s how it stayed until the second half.
Sils made a number of changes at half-time to rest some of the Arden boys who had a NatWest game the following day but we carried on as before despite Shrewsbury being continually off-side at the ruck giving Sils scrum-half no time to get the ball.
Eventually Shrewsbury got a penalty in Sils 22 which they took quickly, Sils not as quick to respond as they needed to be and with a 3 man overlap on the opposite side of the pitch, Shrewsbury ran in their first try. You can always rely on Sils though and the boys responded magnificently with a great try Sils passing the ball down the line with backs mixing with forward through the hands for Cov Joe to score. The conversion sailed over and Sils were back in control at 19-5
Sils kept up the pressure, winning a messy scrum, Smithy picked up the made, made good ground with the ball eventually lending in Bartley’s hands and with Kai kicking his 3rd conversion of the day, the score was 26-5.
Unfortunately Sils then had a player sin-binned; Shrewsbury stepped up the pressure and scored a further 2 tries but too late. The final score ended 26-15 and Sils wait to see who they play in the next round.
