Round Two

This week we played our second cup fixture against Nuneaton RFC
Past fixtures had proved that this was going to a tough, physical encounter.

The game kicked off and straight away we could all see we were in for a contest. Nuns looking strong and committed but this was being equally matched by Sils.
The first try went to Ben Graddon. Sils winning a line out on the Nuns 22 which was beautifully fed through our whole back line to the ever keen Ben to go over in the corner.
Sils forwards were looking incredibly strong. We welcomed back Joe A after his injury absence and he was, as always, performing well along with Noah and the ever improving Nic Bennet in our first set of front rowers.
Second score went to Smithy who is growing in confidence constantly in his 15 shirt. A strong run from Ethan saw the ball once again going through all of our backs to eventually find Smithy and score.
Sils were looking more and more threatening from every inch of the park. Every man was doing his job, being supported and the whole team were playing outstanding rugby, starving Nuns of the ball at every breakdown.
Next try went to Jamie who tracked his man and put him under such pressure that he dropped the ball for Jamie to pick up and score a great solo try. Conversion successful by Elliot.
Nuns were now struggling to contain Sils constant barrage of attacks. They were coming from all angles, rehearsed moves and general rugby intelligence by the whole squad. The support running every time we had the ball was simply jaw dropping.
Final try of the half again went to Jamie. Nuns had a line break in their own half and their player went storming up to half way only to be tackled and have the ball turned over for Jamie to run straight back down into their half and score his second. Elliot again converting well.

Half Time. Nuns 0. Sils 24

The second half began and with our new front row of Henry, Louis and Charlie started as we had finished the first. The forwards were all having an incredibly strong game, Ben Garside seemed to be wherever the ball was !
Fifth try of the game went to Ross, his trademark pick and go from the base saw him go over for a well deserved try. Elliot again adding the additional two points.
Nuns never gave up which is a huge testament to their character and to their coaches. This never say die attitude led to them scoring a well worked try and converting well.
A good Sils scrum saw the ball come to Ethan who made a strong run to score his first of the game in the corner, he also took over kicking duties to add the extra two points from a tight angle.
Speaking to and listening to some other Sils parents, the general opinion was that we were all watching a team who play this game not only well but also incredibly entertaining.

Next on the score sheet was the ever hard working Woody. It’s always nice to see a player who gives so much get one for himself, all be it with the help of the referee who fortunately for him stood in the way of a Nuns clearance kick for the ball to end up in Woody’s hands. Ethan again converting.
Some more great rugby saw Luke go on a charging run down the wing, off loading well to Ethan for him to score his second of the game and again converting himself.
Final score of the day went to Louis, Ethan taking the ball into the corner for our pack to do what they had been doing all day and secure ball for Louis to go over for another well deserved try.
This was once again a fantastic morning of rugby and yet another which I would have happily paid to watch. Hugh also declaring himself as a future paying parent !
Credit to every single player and to our coaching team. Waifs point at half time about our penalty count being so much better than the previous week was a valid and important point and one the boys should be proud of also.

Final score Nuns 7 Sils 57
