This week we welcomed Walsall who unfortunately only had 14 players so Sils decided to lend a few players to enable the game to be played.
The game started well for Sils. Everyone working hard from the kick off.
Some good rugby was played by both teams before Sils scored their first try.
A breakdown on the wing saw an ever alert Max pick from the base and exploit the Walsall blindside to score in the corner.
Some more good play from Sils saw Kyle working hard to secure the ball and carry well. From the resulting breakdown, Haani collected a crash ball on the Walsall 22 to go over for our second score.
Sils were playing intelligent rugby now and were utilising all of the team to give us width and launch attacks from all areas.
Nic Bennett then put in a great carry to gain yards into the Walsall 22 which Harri B collected on another crash ball, to go over for a well deserved try.
Walsall continued to threaten with some well worked moves and their intensity was to be admired. They just couldn’t break Sils strong defensive line though.
Next score went to Adam, who after some great work by Ross to secure the ball, picked a good line to go through relatively unchallenged. Conversion successful by Max.
Some good individual performances were on display now, notably Mark Berry and Louis who were both carrying strongly and defending with some conviction.
This hard work led to another try for Sils when we won the ball on the half way line, which in turn released Haani to go on a charging run and then breaking a tackle to score his second.
Final try of the half went to the ever hard working Tom Ward. Another great carry from Mark saw him felled a few yards from the line and then Tom collecting from the breakdown to score our sixth try.
Half time Sils:32 Walsall:0
The second half began in much the same way as the first with Sils still dominating and the whole team once again playing as a complete 15. Oscar was enjoying his role this week at full back after being open side last week, a real utility player in the making.
A strong Sils scrum saw us win the ball which saw Ross go on one of his typical strong weaving runs to register our next score.
Walsall then found some momentum and their impressive full back went on a great run to score their first of the game.
Sils replied almost instantly when Ross again got his hands on the ball after a strong ruck from our pack. He went on another powerful run to score his second of the game.
The game continued with some good rugby being played by both sides. A strong driving maul from Sils on the wing saw the ball find its way to Jamie Rachman who registered his first try for the club.
This was a good game of rugby today, evenly contested and Walsall were unlucky not to score more. Only the well managed and disciplined Sils defence denied them more points.
A big thank you to Jacob, Scott, Ben Maguire and Ethan for alternating their roles and playing for Walsall. They all contributed to the team as they do for Sils.
Final Score Sils:47 Walsall:5
